John & Mary Lou Colpoys-Wynne waited years to make patio home #618 their new address! Having lived in Orchard Park for 30 years, the Colpoys-Wynnes sold their home to join the Fox Run family.
Love, Laughter & a New Chapter
Both Mary Lou and John were widowed before finding love again and remarrying 24 years ago. Between them, they have six children—four who live locally, and two who live out of state. Their 17 grandchildren are a constant source of excitement and joy.
John once owned a printing company, which he sold in the early 1990s, later becoming a professor and the Director of Entrepreneurship at Canisius College. He’s an active member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo and loves to walk every day—except, of course, when the Buffalo cold temperatures and ice hits!
Mary Lou worked as a teacher’s aide in the Buffalo schools for 11 years before becoming a realtor for 20. She retired in 2004, since then, Mary Lou has been loving cooking, baking, exercising, and spending time with family, keeping her as active as can be.
Snowbirds at heart, the Wynnes have spent 24 winters in Florida and have enjoyed nine trips traveling throughout Europe.
Today, John and Mary Lou are thrilled to be part of the Fox Run Community. They especially enjoy the peace of mind, sense of security, and freedom from home maintenance that Fox Run provides! Be sure to stop and say hello when you see them around!
Mary Lou, who is always up for a chat, was more than happy to sit down with us to share some of their experiences living at Fox Run.
Q: Why did you choose Fox Run?
A: “I started going to open houses many years ago and fell in love with the concept of being able to go from independent living to skilled nursing. I finally got my husband to agree to place a 10% deposit to be on the wait list. We waited three years for the patio home we finally got last July of 2024. We also chose Fox Run because of the friendly people, and bonding with the Marketing Department, especially Maureen and Mary Lou, they made it so easy to navigate the very long process. Think of it as ‘insurance for the future.’” – Mary Lou
“Ask yourself how long you’re going to be healthy—and make the decision now.” -John
Q: What do you love about Fox Run?
A: “The food is delightful, and emergencies are handled really well here. I think the #1 thing to keep people from getting dementia is being social, and that is really important here—and easy to accomplish. Maintenance is available 24/7, at any time, and everything gets done quickly.”
Q: What do you tell your friends about Fox Run?
A: “I feel that anyone who can afford the luxury of living at Fox Run should pursue all of the options that are available. One option being a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in the main building, or a patio home with 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms with the possibility of a loft. The moment we arrived and had our first dinner, a wonderful neighbor appeared and said, ‘this is not a Community, but a family.’ She became one of our favorite people to have dinner with. It is unbelievable what is available to you, a personal trainer and all the exercises. You could be busy every day from morning until night. Snow plowing in the winter is one of our big assets which is done day and night.” – Mary Lou
Q: If one of your friends wanted to move here, what would you tell them?
A: “It is better to go to Fox Run healthy, and have a plan for your long term health care. Don’t wait—have a plan.” – John
