  • Arthritis

  • Injury

What is the difference between Physical, Occupational, & Speech Therapy?

Physical Therapists can assist with your general functional mobility. This is accomplished through addressing your balance, strength, and range of motion. If you have any difficulty with walking, an assistive device such as a walker may be recommended

Occupational Therapists address your activities of daily living (ADLs), which help make day-to-day tasks easier, such as dressing and bathing. Oftentimes adaptive equipment can be suggested (i.e. shower seat, a reacher, etc.)

Speech-Language Pathologists address swallowing dysfunction, which in turn can make it difficult for you to swallow your food or drink. Speech Therapy may also focus on difficulty speaking (forming words, your voice) or help with your thought process and recalling words

What is the difference between inpatient rehabilitation therapy and outpatient rehabilitation therapy?

Inpatient rehabilitation is when you are temporarily admitted to Fox Run Skilled Nursing for a short-term stay. Extensive therapy may be provided six days per week during a short-term stay with the goal of returning you to your prior living arrangements

Outpatient rehabilitation services are provided as an in-office visit. Your scheduled appointment could be two-to-three times per week, with each appointment lasting approximately an hour

Is Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy included in the Fox Run Monthly Service Fee (MSF)?

No. All therapy services must have an order from your physician and are billed to your insurance. All insurance policies differ, so cost varies from policy to policy. Depending on the insurance plans, copays and preauthorization may apply

How do I find out how much a therapy session will cost?

Cost varies from policy to policy. Call your insurance company to ask questions.

After Fox Run receives the referral for therapy services from your physician, Fox Run may assist you by verifying your benefits with your insurance provider. This will help determine what your out-of-pocket cost will be (including your copay)

How long will I be coming to therapy?

Your therapist will perform an initial evaluation of your abilities, and based upon those results, you and your therapist will discuss your prognosis and therapy plan of care. Clinical assessments are ongoing and completed throughout the course of your treatment. The amount of therapy is based upon several factors, including your individual progress and your response to treatment, in conjunction with following Medicare required guidelines. Prior to being discharged from therapy, you will be given the tools to continue some exercises on your own

Can family or friends observe therapy sessions?

The Fox Run Therapy Department encourages involvement from family members and friends. When needed, therapists will educate your loved ones to best assist and guide your rehabilitation. Some equipment is covered through your insurance through a physician’s order, and some is not.  Don’t hesitate to call the Therapy Department to guide you through the process at 716.508.2172

Why is it called the Clement & Margot Ip Rehabilitation Center?

Dr.’s Clement and Margot Ip moved into Fox Run in June of 2016. They are both retired research scientists from Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The Ips believe in the science behind medicine, and wanted to show their appreciation for medicine and Fox Run. They made a generous donation and in appreciation of that donation, Fox Run officially named the Rehabilitation Center after them in 2018. The Ips currently are enjoying living their life at Fox Run, and you can often see them walking the campus!
